Lower School Library

Through regular exposure to the Lower School Library and its staff, your child will become an information fluent citizen, empowered with the knowledge and skills for success in a rapidly changing world.

Our Jackson Academy Lower School Library offers students an inviting environment designed to nurture a lifelong love of reading. A well stocked library containing a collection of over 12,000 books provides students in first through fifth grades with a rich selection of fiction and non-fiction titles. The librarian is available to assist students locate age appropriate yet challenging materials based on individual interests and abilities.

In the Lower School, students have a scheduled forty minute library class period each week. During that time, children may select two books to check out for the week. Additionally, they participate in story time, learn essential library skills, practice reading comprehension strategies, read independently, work toward achieving Accelerated Reading goals and play educational games.

Outside of the scheduled library class, students have other opportunities to visit the library during the school day to exchange books and select new ones. The library also hosts the annual Book Fair and periodic author visits to encourage literacy and foster a community of readers in the Lower School.

Meet the Librarian

Lynn Watson
Lower School Librarian

Lynn Watson earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Millsaps College. After teaching sixth grade literature in the JA Middle School for two years, she became the Lower School Librarian. An avid reader herself, she strives to inspire a lifelong love of reading in her students while teaching reading comprehension skills that will serve students throughout their academic careers.
