2020 MAIS Bandmasters State Band Clinic

A record-breaking number of JA students represented the school at the MAIS Concert Band Clinic held at Hinds Community College Thursday through Friday of last week. The clinic offers students who are enrolled in MAIS band programs with an opportunity to compete, collaborate, and network with fellow musicians.

Azaria McDowell and Steven Chustz have been named Jackson Academy’s School Winners in the Heisman High School Scholarship competition! The Heisman High School Scholarship program recognizes scholar-athletes who perform with excellence in the classroom, on the field, and in their communities.

Grandparents Enjoy Precious Moments at JA

Grandparents didn’t mind returning to school one bit, as long as they got to sit beside their grandchildren in class. Over 200 grandparents, relatives, and special friends braved a bit of stormy weather to attend JA’s first Upper School Grandparents Day Friday.

Hammering Away at Cancer

The JA campus community took action last week to beat breast cancer, making Friday’s pep rally a “Pink Parade,” sponsoring a fundraiser, and offering up-to-date prevention details to faculty and staff.

Student-Led Retreat Grows Faith and Friendship

“The reality of obedience is this; it’s less of God saying, ‘Don’t do that,’ and it’s more of God saying, ‘Will you trust me?” Last weekend, Hamilton Harper, Student Pastor at Cornerstone Church in Athens, Alabama, and Christ United Methodist Church’s worship band led 161 attendees and 65 student-leaders to focus on the idea of living fearlessly out of the knowledge that God always has a plan to provide for and protect His children. Throughout the weekend, students spent time in small groups led by upperclassmen and enjoyed several recreational activities, including a Western-themed line dance, basketball, and an eating competition.
